On July 3rd 2012 Google announced that they were going to sunset iGoogle on Nov 1st 2013. There are the 7 stages of grief:
1. SHOCK & DENIAL-
There were a few thousand post to the Google forum within the first week of the announcement. Many thought it was a joke.
2. PAIN & GUILT-
Then within that same first week there were many that said how hard it would be for them and the pain they would have to endure.
3. ANGER & BARGAINING-
The anger, oh the anger. The change.org petition, the vulgarity of some and the outrage of others. Yeah it was bad. Needless to say it was not the best situation overall.
4. “DEPRESSION”, REFLECTION, LONELINESS-
This portion lasted for the last 13 months, with a little anger tossed in when the mobile version was shuttered as well.
5. THE UPWARD TURN-
Some enterprising developers decided to build webpages that can pull most of the date for the users. The sites they built are decent and come close to what iGoogle was built.
6. RECONSTRUCTION & WORKING THROUGH-
Nov 1st is today. iGoogle is closed. Sadly there are those that did not know it was gonna close even though Google has a message stating that it would close that users for some reason could not see somehow.
7. ACCEPTANCE & HOPE-
Nov 1st, today. Time for the acceptance part for moving on and having the hope. Many are still outraged. The users said they are going to Yahoo or Bing because they do not change. Pssstt, they all change, all websites change to improve.
